Sons of Confederate Veterans, Eugene West

It’s official I’m finally a Confederate, this proves it!
They spelt “Read’s” Battalion wrong on my certificate, don’t mean to pick on them since they do such a great job but it’s typical of the Confederacy, lol.

  1. Congratulations! I’m sure I must be your relative. Just found out that Thomas B.Jones is my 3rd Great Uncle. Please give me a call at 540 xxx xxxxx. Fielding Jones was my G.G.Grandfather and he father was James Jones who was a Rev. War soldier.

    • Richmond Armory made 3 length barrels…..25″, 33″, and 40″….. If yours is 21″ it was probably cut down at some time. Does it have a front sight? Please provide some photos and I can better identify.

      Gene

    • John, if you could provide high resolution photos of the carbine it would help in answering any questions you may have. If possible please photo the lock plate, barrel, both barrel bands, butt plate, front sight, rear sight and any markings on the stock.
      Regards, Gene West

  3. Good afternoon,

I apologize for being so foward about this. I stumbled upon your website, and was wondering if you interested in purchasing a Springfield 1842 Rifled Musket that I own.

The lock and tang are both dated 1854. It is rifled, and has the rear sights.

    If interested I’ll send pictures.

I live in North Central PA, so no need to ship.

    Thanks, take care.

    Respectfully,
    Kyle Kalasnik

  4. Good evening,
I would like to contact you because according to what I read you are a great specialist a great specialist of the Richmond rifles of the Civil War.
I am in France and the documentation in French on the weapons of this period
period does not exist, thanks to the internet it is easier although the automatic
automatic translations are not always very comprehensible, hence my contact.
My question was about a Richemont rifle of 1864, this one corresponds well to the model except what differences :
-the steel butt plate (perfectly adjusted = original ?)
-the nose cap is made of steel and held by a rivet.
    {shouldn’t they be in brass?}

The wood has no marking except a capital T on the left side between the two screws of fixing of the plate.
The barrel (visible parts) no marking except a 3 on the left side a few centimeters before the rise.

I hope not to have bothered you and I am waiting for your news.
    Have a nice evening.
    Sincerely yours.
    Eric
